Last night we were recording… this time in a recording studio.. my daughter was singing.. 2 songs down… 4 to go!  YEA!

I love when I can get you a free bonus or free shipping and handling on my products on HSN. It makes me feel good! I know you feel good when you see those words too. Its adds value and we all like to be valued. If you have ever walked a trade show, a grand opening or an in store promotion you know your hear beats a bit faster in anticipation of what that advertised free give away could be!  In some circles the question to ask is “got any swag?”  HSN host Helen Keaney knows all about that.. with all the comedy clubs she performs at when she is not on HSN, she will inevitably come home with “swag”… something with the company logo on it, a hat, a T shirt, a bottle opener….She is at Harrahs in Las Vegas as we speak.. I wonder what swag she will snag? Right now I am working with Panasonic to get you some swag when you purchase the very popular and best selling Panasonic Cordless 360 Iron. Some ideas we are throwing around is; a lint brush, ironing pad, cedar block , sachet, a travel hanger…. HMM what would you like? Speaking of FREE—One of my favorite free venues is FREECYCLE.ORG . I participate in my local one, after you offer something for free you can ask for free stuff…anything from plant cuttings (I got some of those last week) to computers (there is a guy who refurbishes as a hobby and offers them) can be offered and taken – all for free.  The purpose is to keep things out of landfills but its also a giving community…recycle what you are done with-  all for free. So what is one of your  favorite words?

INTERESTING UPDATE       This just came across my desk.. my freecycle group sent a notice that a corporation is trying to take over local ownership of Freecycle groups… WOW .. if this happens a local person will not be in charge but some corporation some where in the USA.. that is unacceptable… here is the note I got in my freecycle.. apparently all freecycle groups are under pressure  to submit or do a  name change .. my group looks like they are changing to phreecycle.. We do not need a big Corporate take over of Freecycle!   How sad!

“Freecycle was started by Deron Beal as a grassroots movement with the goal or gifting things back to the community in order to keep them out of the landfills.. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” type of thing. The idea caught on and grew globally. The idea is a fantastic one, one that we’ve supported fastidiously all this time. However, as Freecycle grew, in came the corporate sponsors and the dollar signs. Freecycle made their own domain.. the ‘.org’ as well call it and they’ve encourage all the local groups to migrate from Yahoo! where we are currently hosted to their domain on the ‘.org’. We’ve fought the migration all this time, and now they’re attempting to force us to go. This will mean that it’ll no longer be run locally and you’ll be dealing w/someone sitting behind a desk making big bucks in some office somewhere in the United States.

We’ve been left with a couple of options.. change the group name to something other than freecycle. Turn the group over to them or delete it completely and let them figure it out.

From our perspective, there are five of us, 1 of us has owned and co-owned and moderated this group for the last 7-8 years.. we’ve fought long and hard to keep it clean, running smoothly, protect you all from the endless spammers and hijackers, keep it not like craigslist where anything goes. I know we’ve been criticized for being too strict.. however.. we have 7k members.. that’s a bit to keep track of!

Anyway, the point is let you guys know what’s going on.. if you have feedback, or a preference, let’s hear it.. it’ll determine our next course of action. Please respond if so inclined, we’ll keep you updated and let you know what our intentions are.” (PS  that 7,000 is just in my local  area)

UPDATE Hours after I wrote this my local freecycle became PHREECYCLE in an effort not to be part of  corporate take over!  So did the Tampa Florida branch… YEA.. go away corporation.org…. we want to stay local!  I hope your local branch will stay “local” too!

I just graduated three of my children… My son Jaime is now a Lawyer, Jesse now has a BA in business from UF and is a very prestigious Florida Blue Key member! Lastly,my daughter who bears the family name, Vonabell , has graduated high school with honors and an AA degree at the same time!
